VMware AVI Load Balancer Deployment and Configuration

MY Environment:

1. vSphere Version – 8.0.

2. AVI Controller Version – 22.1.2.

3. DNS – 192.168.5.150, DNS Name – kdinesh.in.

4. AVI VIP and Service Network –  dhcp-vlan15 – 172.100.0.0/24.Static Ip pool for VIP and service engines – 172.100.0.200 –240.

AVI Controller Deployment and configuration: –

  1. Download AVI OVA from VMware AVi official portal
  • AVI Controller OVA Deploying on vSphere

Login into vCenter > Right Click on Cluster > Deploy OVF template.

Choose Local file option > Upload Files > select AVI Controller OVA > Click on NEXT.

Enter the Virtual machine name and select a location for the virtual machine > Click on NEXT.

Select a Compute resource > Click on NEXT.

Click on NEXT.

Select Storage > Select virtual disk Format and datastore > Click on NEXT.

Choose Network from the drop-down list > Click on NEXT.

Enter Management Interface IP Address, Subnet, Gateway > Click on NEXT.

Review Entered/Selected details > Click on Finish.

AVI VM Will be provisioned on vCenter. Check VM Provisioning status on vCenter Recent Tasks. Once the VM provision is completed. Power on AVI VM.

2. Configuring the AVI Controller

Enter AVI URL on the Browser for accessing the AVI GUI Console. The first time it will ask to set up an admin password. Enter a New password. (Email is optional)

Set up new passphrase > Enter DNS IPs and DNS search Domain > Click on NEXT.

If you’re using any SMTP, you can configure it or select the None option and Click on NEXT.

Select the IP route Domain, and Service Engines managed options based on your requirement.

The initial Setup is completed. Next, select the Infrastructure option > In infrastructure, select Clouds option and Click on Create > From the drop-down list, select VMware vCenter/vSphere/ESXi option.

Enter vCenter details – vCenter Address, Username, and Password > Click on Connect. (Once vCenter is connected to AVI will fetch all vCenter data)

After Connecting the vCenter, select the Use Content Library option and Choose Content Library from Drop-Down LIST. (If, in the case already, you’ve not created any Content library on vCenter. Crate Content Library on vCenter – Go to the vCenter Menu > Content Library > Create Content Library) (IN content library, AVI controller will store AVI service Engine OVA file)

Next, Create IPAM > Enter Name, select cloud(vSphere), and choose Network(dhcp-vlan15) > click on save.

Create DNS Resolver > Enter DNS Name and Name Server IP > Click on SAVE.

Enter DNS Name > Click on SAVE.

Cloud profile configuration completed. You can see the status showing green.

Next, Crate Static IP pool in Network. Under Cloud resources > Select Networks options (it will show all available network port groups on vCenter). In my case, I am planning to use DHCP-vlan15. During IPAM creation, also I Selected dhcp-vlan15. Click on the Pencil button to configure the static IP pool.

Enter Static IP pool range and Select Use static IP address for VIPs and Service Engine. You may also choose the different networks for service and VIPs based on your requirements. Click on SAVE.

The basic AVI controller required configuration Is completed.
